{"id":1221,"date":"2026-04-23T07:31:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T07:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.cis.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=1221"},"modified":"2026-04-23T07:31:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T07:31:35","slug":"a-researcher-from-our-center-participates-with-a-scientific-paper-entitled-water-diplomacy-and-its-impact-on-food-security-in-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.cis.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=1221","title":{"rendered":"A Researcher from Our Center Participates with a Scientific Paper Entitled: Water Diplomacy and Its Impact on Food Security in Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Sakkal Majalla';\">Media and Government Communication Unit<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Sakkal Majalla';\">W<strong>ithin the framework of academic cooperation among Iraqi research centers, researcher Assistant Lecturer Rafal Iyad from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, University of Baghdad, participated with a research paper in the scientific seminar organized by the Department of Public Policies at the Al-Mustansiriya Center for Arab and International Studies, entitled, &#8220;Food Security Under Environmental and Political Challenges.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Sakkal Majalla';\">In<strong> her paper, entitled &#8220;Water Diplomacy and Its Impact on Food Security in Iraq,&#8221; Rafal Iyad examined how the water file has evolved from a technical environmental issue into an instrument of regional political pressure. The paper noted that the decline in Iraq\u2019s water shares as a result of upstream state projects\u2014such as T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s GAP Project and the Atat\u00fcrk and Ilisu dams\u2014not only threatens the agricultural sector, but also strikes at the core of food security for the Iraqi citizen.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Sakkal Majalla';\">The paper concluded with several recommendations, including the activation of diplomatic channels and engagement with international organizations to secure equitable water shares, as well as the urgent modernization of dam infrastructure and a comprehensive transition toward modern irrigation technologies, including sprinkler and drip systems, in order to reduce waste.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Sakkal Majalla';\">T<strong>his participation comes within the context of strengthening scientific cooperation and exchanging expertise and ideas among reputable research centers.
