The Department of Crisis Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad held a scientific workshop entitled “The Political Dimension of Sustainable Development”, under the supervision of Dr. Sattar Jabbar Allay, Head of the Department.
The workshop included a scientific research presented by Eng. Ali Abdul Muttalib Sadiq, a researcher at our center, where he discussed the radical transformation in the concept of development. This transformation started from limiting development to the economic aspect (physical capital), then expanded to include human development (human capital), followed by a focus on sustainable development and social capital, leading to the concept of human development. The researcher explained that this transformation is the basis for the emergence of the relationship between the concept of “good governance” and sustainable development.
Speaking about the two concepts of development, Eng. Ali Abdul Muttalib pointed out that there are two main concepts:
The first is the traditional narrow concept that focuses only on economic development.
The second is the broad concept that is based on the idea of human development or inclusive sustainable development.
In his research paper, the researcher also addressed the idea of “good governance” or “good governance”, which has become one of the main criteria in determining the political dimension of development.
