The Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad is holding a scientific workshop to discuss (the protest movement and raising public awareness in Iraq) .

The Department of Regional and International Political Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies_ University of Baghdad  held a scientific workshop entitled :

(The protest movement and raising public awareness in Iraq ) Presented by Assistant Lecturer Ali Bisht With the participation of an elite group of researchers and academics .

The workshop focused on the transformations of protest movements in Iraq, especially after 2003.

The workshop covered several topics :

  • Protest against the occupation and the American presence led by the Sadrist movement before 2011 .
  • The 2015 protests, which marked a turning point in the history of the Iraqi protest movement , Because it witnessed a cross-pollination of Islamic and civil ideas through the alliance of Sadrists and civilians.
  • The October 2019 protests marked a major turning point in the trajectory of public awareness and the ways in which popular demands were expressed.

The lecturer pointed out that the Iraqi protests have evolved from momentary reactions to organized demands, reflecting a deepening crisis of trust between citizens and state institutions.

The lecturer also highlighted :

  • The decline of the role of traditional parties in leading the street.
  • The rise of independent voices and civil society organizations.
  • Analysis of the factors influencing public mood, especially the role of the media, social media, and economic factors.

The workshop concluded with a number of important scientific recommendations, calling for enhanced research into the dynamics of the Iraqi popular movement and linking it to political development frameworks, thus contributing to building a sound relationship between the masses and decision-makers.
