Under the patronage of the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Al-Zughaibi, and under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Professor Dr. Saad Ubaid Alwan, the Department of Strategic Studies organized a scientific symposium entitled “Geopolitical Transformations in the Middle East: Regional Implications and Strategic Responses.”

The symposium witnessed high-level attendance led by Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji, alongside the President of the University of Baghdad, the Director General of the Department of Research and Studies at the Presidency of the Republic, and a number of officers and senior officials from the University of Defense, in addition to a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and specialists in political and security affairs.

The symposium featured an intensive research session centered on examining the accelerating geopolitical transformations taking place across the Middle East and analyzing their direct and indirect implications for regional security and the states of the region. The research papers and scholarly interventions focused on formulating a distinctly Iraqi perspective for interpreting ongoing developments, grounded in the determinants of the supreme national interest.

Participants also discussed mechanisms for strengthening Iraq’s national position in response to these transformations and explored approaches capable of enabling decision-makers to formulate flexible strategic responses able to engage effectively with regional crises, in a manner that safeguards Iraq’s stability and sovereignty.
