A number of researchers and academics from the Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad participated in the scientific symposium organized by the Research Center and the Museum of Natural History in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad and a number of research institutes and centers under the title (Legislative Regulation to Protect Working Women in Iraq) with the participation of an elite group of academics and specialists in law and human rights.

The symposium included lectures delivered by Dr. Ayman Ahmed Al-Shammari, Dr. Rana Mawloud Shaker, and assistant lecturer Vian Fawzi Saeed, who offered in-depth insights and legal analyses into the reality of working women in Iraq.

The seminar aimed to shed light on the legal legislation that guarantees and protects women’s rights in the workplace, based on Iraqi Labor Law No. 37 of 2015, which includes special chapters that enhance the protection of working women. It also emphasized the guarantees of the Iraqi constitution, which stipulate equality of rights and duties and the protection of the rights of motherhood and childhood.

The symposium’s topics were divided into three main themes, the most important of which were the rights of working women in the Iraqi Constitution, as well as the basic principles of the Iraqi Labor Law of 2015 and the legal exceptions related to working women in government institutions.

This symposium comes as part of the University of Baghdad’s efforts, represented by its research centers and specialized departments, to promote legal awareness of working women’s rights and provide academic and cognitive support that contributes to building a fair and safe work environment for women, in line with national goals for social and economic development.

This symposium achieves a number of sustainable development goals, including Fifth Goal : gender equality, Eighth goal: decent work and economic growth, and Sixteenth Goal : peace, justice, and strong institutions.
