In accordance with the approved scientific plan of the Women’s Affairs Division at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, in cooperation with the College of Political Science, organized an awareness-raising lecture highlighting United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and its significance in strengthening the status of women and ensuring their protection.
The lecture was delivered by Ms. Rafal Iyad Saleh, Assistant Lecturer and researcher at the Center, who addressed the legal and humanitarian dimensions of Resolution 1325, adopted by the Security Council in 2000. She emphasized that this resolution represents a historic turning point as the first binding international instrument to recognize the central role of women in achieving peace and security and in preventing conflicts. It also constitutes a fundamental mechanism for reducing violence against women and for raising international awareness of its dangers.
The lecture concluded with recommendations stressing the need to activate monitoring and follow-up mechanisms for the implementation of national action plans, as well as to enhance public awareness of the importance of women’s participation as essential partners in building societal stability and achieving sustainable security.
