As part of its academic and research program for the current academic year, the Crisis Studies Department at the Center organized a workshop entitled “Guarantees of Public Freedoms under the Permanent Constitution of Iraq (2005).”

The workshop was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Badriya Saleh Abdullah, who examined the legal and philosophical foundations of rights and freedoms within the Iraqi constitutional framework. She emphasized that the current constitution constitutes the primary cornerstone for the protection of individuals, provided that the rule-of-law state adheres to the established constitutional principles.

The workshop was attended by a number of academics and researchers who enriched the discussion through interventions addressing the challenges facing the implementation of these guarantees at the present time, as well as mechanisms for strengthening the role of oversight institutions in safeguarding public rights.

This workshop forms part of a series of activities undertaken by the Center aimed at highlighting the constitutional mechanisms that ensure human dignity and freedom. It underscores that the construction of a “state governed by the rule of law” requires the continuous activation of these guarantees in practice to confront crises and ensure societal stability.
