The seminar witnessed distinguished attendance by a select group of professors and specialized researchers. The academic sessions focused on assessing the current trajectory of Iraq’s economic orientations amid ongoing geopolitical transformations, while examining pathways for transitioning from a traditional economy toward more flexible models, including network security frameworks and regional integration.
The seminar concluded with the following recommendations:
- Balance Diplomacy and Strategic Partnerships: Adopt an external economic policy based on diversifying regional and international partnerships in a manner that ensures equilibrium among major powers, strengthens Iraq’s sovereignty, and prevents dependence on any single pole.
- Structural Reform and Resource Diversification: Reinforce the role of the state in transitioning from a rent-based economy to a productive economic base centered on industry and agriculture, while utilizing cooperation with international financial institutions to support fiscal reform without compromising national constants.
- Investment and Strategic Infrastructure: Improve the investment climate through legislative reform and procedural simplification, alongside the development of strategic economic infrastructure in ports and energy sectors that attracts long-term partnerships and guarantees technology transfer.
- Sustainable Regional Integration and Connectivity: Strengthen economic linkage projects in the fields of energy and transportation to integrate Iraq into the international system, while adopting sustainable economy policies that safeguard resources and address environmental considerations.
- Institutionalizing Academic Input in Decision-Making: Bridge the gap between research centers and policymaking institutions by involving universities and academic centers in the formulation of public policy, ensuring that economic directions are grounded in rigorous scientific vision.
The seminar concluded with participants affirming that Iraq’s political stability is closely linked to its ability to build a strong and sustainable network of economic partnerships that enhance its standing as a pivotal actor in the region and the wider world.
