The Department of Regional and International Political Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies convened a specialized workshop titled “American Hegemony in the Age of Algorithmic Superiority: From Nuclear Deterrence to Digital Control.” The workshop was presented by Researcher Assist. Lec. Noura Riyadh Al-Dabbagh and attended by several members of the department.

The workshop examined the structural transformation currently unfolding within the international system. The presenter noted that the balance of power is no longer measured solely by nuclear arsenals. Instead, algorithmic superiority…driven by advances in artificial intelligence and the processing of large-scale data…has emerged as a central pillar of contemporary digital dominance.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing that the evolving nature of international power requires states, including Iraq, to recognize the growing importance of digital sovereignty and to develop national capabilities in cybersecurity. Strengthening such capacities is essential for safeguarding critical infrastructure and for keeping pace with rapidly evolving strategic developments.
