The Department of Regional and International Political Studies at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, University of Baghdad, held a workshop entitled:

“Iraqi–British Relations in the Era of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani: Challenges and Opportunities”.

It was presented by Assistant Lecturer Lamyaa Jabbar Atiyah and supervised by Dr Mufid Qasid Al-Zaidi, Head of the Department. The event was attended by several members of the department and centre.

The workshop addressed a number of key themes, including:

  • Political, administrative, and regional challenges affecting the trajectory of bilateral relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom.
  • The impact of administrative corruption on fostering international partnerships.
  • The significance of security cooperation in combating terrorist organisations.
  • Prospects for collaboration in the fields of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

 

Major Outcomes and Recommendations of the Workshop:

  • Emphasis on the current phase as a genuine opportunity to strengthen Iraqi–British relations.
  • A call to expand academic and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
  • Highlighting the strategic importance of enhancing diplomatic engagement with African nations, as a promising area for Iraqi foreign policy.

 

Professor Mufid Qasid Al-Zaidi, Head of the Department of Regional and International Political Studies, commended the presenter for her informative contribution. He also extended his appreciation to the attendees for their active participation and scholarly engagement during the workshop.
