The Center for Strategic and International Studies took part in a scientific workshop organized by the Secretariat of the National Security Council and the National Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism, in cooperation with the European organization GIZ. The workshop was held in Baghdad and aimed to enhance cultural and knowledge exchange in efforts to address violent extremism leading to terrorism.

The Center was represented at the workshop by its Director, Professor Dr. Saad Al-Saeedi, who presented a research paper entitled “The Drivers of Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism and Ways to Counter It.” The paper examined the “five causative factors” underlying violent extremism and underscored that an effective and sustainable response requires comprehensive societal, educational, and intellectual reforms.

The workshop also witnessed distinguished attendance and active participation by the researchers Dr. Sarah Hamed and Ms. Mai Mahdi. This participation forms part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote the exchange of expertise in addressing national-level security and intellectual challenges.
