The Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad convened a scholarly symposium entitled “The Role of the Legislative Authority in Confronting the Water Crisis in Iraq: Approaches and Remedies”, with the participation of researchers and academics, and in the presence of Dr. Haider Al-Mutairi, Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Education
The symposium addressed the water-related challenges facing Iraq and examined the options available to the legislative authority for addressing them. It featured substantive interventions by researchers, who underscored the importance of developing strategic plans and enacting supportive legislation for the effective management of water resources.
Participants emphasized the necessity of integrating the efforts of legislative, executive, and academic institutions in order to overcome the crisis and secure the country’s water security. They further highlighted the need to design awareness programs targeting citizens, with a view to reinforcing the culture of water conservation and rational consumption.
